Question 4: Why 'no solutions'?




Use your understanding of gradient to explain why there are no solutions to this pair of simultaneous equations, as shown on the graph.

  1. Line C and Line D are parallel to each other and there is no intersection point, hence there are no solutions to the pair of simultaneous equations.

  3. The lines have the exact same gradient and thus will never intersect. So, there are no answers.

  4. Line C and D do not intersect as they are parellel to each other. Therefore there are no solutions to this pair of simultaneous equations.

  5. There is no intersection point of the two lines, C and D, as they are parallel to each other. Since there are no intersections, there is therefore, no solutions for this pair of simultaneous linear equations.
